There is an inaccuracy in this article regarding Scorsese's education. Scorsese is not a graduate of Tisch School of the Arts. Scorsese received a Master of Arts from NYU's Steinhardt in 1968. "[Scorsese] earned his undergraduate degree from NYU’s Washington Square College in 1964, a Master of Arts degree from the School of Education (now the Steinhardt School of Education, Culture, and Human Development) in 1968, and taught in NYU Tisch’s undergraduate filmmaking program shortly thereafter.' The Color of Money - first mainstream film

Is it sourced that this film is considered to be Scorsese's first foray into mainstream filmmaking? Taxi Driver would seem to qualify, in the literal sense that it was distributed by a major studio, it starred an Oscar winner, it's not an experimental film, etc. It seems to me that the Color of Money "first mainstream" claim is using the term "mainstream" to editorialize on the commercial/conventional qualities of the film. My only observation would be that the themes of crime, nihilism, and Catholic concepts I see in the second source, I don't see any mention of posturing/insecure men in it, and I'm not sure if it was in the first. I could see that descriptor as being editorializing from some review that should either be eliminated or contextualized differently, but the majority of the text I think should stay (although I'm not sure where nihilism fits in, that may be a term being misused by the author in question). The same hoax has been added to Martin Scorsese filmography, Harvey Keitel, Gene Hackman, John Cazale, Al Pacino on stage and screen, Cybil Shepherd, and Robert De Niro filmography. The page was already partially locked, but as far as I can see this is for unrelated reasons - it was locked at the end of October following a spate of vandalism, and I think the meme interest only seems to date to the last week or so, judging by the traffic numbers. We have definitely reached this point. There are 19 sources cited on the Goncharov article. We need at least a sentence in there linking to the article itself. I think that in the 2020's section there could be a mention of Scorsese's acknowledgement of the Goncharov meme, and in the legacy section there could be a brief summary of the origin and spread of Goncharov. Maybe the Goncharov article could be linked in 'see also'? Considering that The New York Times, Neil Gaiman, Ryan Reynolds, Lynda Carter, and Scorsese himself responded to it, I'd say it is pretty noteworthy Echopraxia (talk) 01:36, 22 October 2023 (UTC)
