Re-write
[edit]Have commenced an entire re-write of this article, taking on board some of the comments made on the talk page previously, and as the article had become disjointed and confused. This hopefully attempts to keep it concise, using existing Reynolds refs plus both Belle-Fortune and James - the three most key texts relating to jungle.
Have also tried to incorporate some sense of how the sound developed from breakbeat hardcore, darkcore, and that phase of jungle techno and hardcore jungle, include reference to the DJs, radio stations, artists and big tracks.
Some paragraphs exist from the previous article which need work - the subsection 'Crossover with drum and bass' is unsatisfactory, and could do with some references/commentary on the relationship and development between jungle/d'n'b - where in some cases they are interchangeable, but in others clearly whole new subgenres of drum and bass and the directions that Goldie, Ed Rush, Trace, Doc Scott, Bukem, Rider, Optical, etc. went in post 94- created a distinct space between what is considered jungle and what is drum and bass. 77.86.103.78 (talk) 16:06, 16 June 2020 (UTC)
- I removed some supposedly notable example tracks that were from artists without Wikipedia pages. Binksternet (talk) 19:07, 16 June 2020 (UTC)
- Fair enough, but they are notable within the genre. Notability in terms of Wikipedia (especially the criteria for getting new articles accepted and reliance on particularly mainstream media/press as sources) is always going to mean that any music/cultural scenes outside of the/less mainstream are going to be negatively impacted by that. I personally believe that makes articles all the poorer for it. 77.86.103.78 (talk) 19:12, 16 June 2020 (UTC)
Update the re-emergent jungle scene section???
[edit]Can i, or someone else update this section to include references to more modern jungle music? The most recent example of jungle music on this page is Chase And Status "rtn 2 jngl" or whatever, which while a fine album, is just that! one album. it would be good to include references to contemporary artists working in the style like tim reaper, coco bryce, labels like western lore and rupture london, that one lobster theremin offshoot (i forget the name), etc, regardless of whether or not they have wikipedia pages already. Jungle music → Jungle (genre) – "Jungle" with no qualification is by far the primary & predominant term. "Jungle music" is not a term standard enough that entails using this WP:natural disambiguation over the standard WP:parenthetical disambiguation. "Jungle (genre)" is also much clearer, as "jungle music" could be ambiguous as referring to literal music of a jungle in the eyes of someone who has never heard of this. - Oppose per WP:NATURAL. Can be seen written as "jungle music" in reliable sources [1][2][3] 162 etc. (talk) 15:14, 4 October 2024 (UTC)
- I believe the use of the word “Music” is as a modifier for the word “Jungle” (which has a much more common meaning) in order for readers to know what the subject of the media is. As a quick to find example, in your third linked article in the first sentence after the title, the author uses “Jungle” instead of “Jungle Music” in reference to the genre because they have already established they are talking about a genre of music and not a type of forest. The “music” in “Jungle music” as the page name modifies “Jungle” and “(genre)” would modify it in the same way as well as create less confusion. Also from personal experience (original research alert!) people just call it Jungle. Lavabite (talk) 00:58, 6 October 2024 (UTC)
- Yes, the idea behind WP:NATURAL is that sometimes a less common, but still common, alternative is used to avoid a parenthetical. People call country music "Country", or house music "House", but the articles can't be at Country or House. Same thing here. 162 etc. (talk) 16:40, 6 October 2024 (UTC)

- Support per nominator. "Jungle music" might be confused with music heard in literal jungles. JIP | Talk 08:12, 6 October 2024 (UTC)
- Oppose if only 'genre' can apply to many things - suggest "Jungle (music genre)"? 77.86.103.78 (talk) 19:12, 8 October 2024 (UTC)
- Oppose per the IP editor above. I think we are on the right track for "Jungle (music genre)" instead. When working on articles like Adventure film, I came across terms like "jungle films" casually (example here). While obviously related to film genres in context of a document, "Jungle (genre)" would not be clear whether its talking about films or potentially some other medium that has a jungle genre. Several youtube video as well promote sounds of the jungle as new age or ASMR type themes, so maybe even going as far as to say Jungle (electronic music genre) might be safest. Per WP:PARENTHDIS, "more latitude is allowed to form descriptive and unique titles" so I'm leaning towards the latter. Andrzejbanas (talk) 16:15, 9 October 2024 (UTC)
- jungle (genre) might be a bit more compact, but (music genre) probably is best as it is most descriptive and would help eliminate confusion. I could easily see it going either but it still should be changed. 2600:1700:9549:8010:24CC:A3D9:831C:E50C (talk) 20:22, 10 October 2024 (UTC)
