To quote the opening sentence of this article, "Jackson Roykirk is a fictional character from the Star Trek universe, and was discussed but never seen on the Star Trek: The Original Series episode The Changeling." With just 161 unique google hits [1], is this "trekkie-cruft" or material fit for an encyclopedia? --GRider\talk 19:18, 7 Mar 2005 (UTC)

- I think all characters about this level should be merged into some kind of "Minor Star Trek characters" article, with links to each of their character biographies on some Star Trek fansite. Then redirects put up to a more mainstream article/episode article, for example this one redirected to Nomad or whatever. Let another website bear the brunt for people looking for cruft. - I have
attempted to write themerged onto List of Star Trek Characters, but i keep getting message about "wikipedia not receiving a response for my request" or something, which is frustrating me almost beyond words, but anyway, here is what i regard as merge-worthy information, the rest is duplication of "Nomad" (which itself could be merged into the List of Star Trek Characters, not that the link in this article points towards the correct meaning of "nomad", but there we go): --- "* Jackson Roykirk (TOS, "The Changeling"), 21st Century robotics engineer who built the space probe known as Nomad which was launched from Earth to explore the galaxy." ---anyone whose computer/Wikipedia seems to be letting them edit be my guest to add it to List of Star Trek Characters.
- I have
Comment: One thing though, does this not set a precedent for the treatment of minor Star Trek characters which would require editing of epic proportions to be made consistent throughout? Jdcooper 00:27, 8 Mar 2005 (UTC)
- Delete or redir to The Changeling (Star Trek) and de-link there. I don't consider a character that only exists as a sentence or two of dialog in one episode to even be a 'minor character'. FWIW, there aren't many articles at Category:Star_Trek_characters that are this minor. Niteowlneils 02:21, 8 Mar 2005 (UTC)
- Delete, non-encyclopedic. ComCat 03:57, 8 Mar 2005 (UTC)
- Merge with List of Star Trek characters. A single minor Star Trek character in unencyclopedic but a collection of them is notable. --Allen3 22:17, Mar 7, 2005 (UTC)
- Merge as above. A list of minor characters, where every character gets a sentence or two, without a link to an article of their own, is fine by me. — JIP | Talk 06:07, 8 Mar 2005 (UTC)
- Merge and redirect to List of Star Trek characters. Megan1967 07:01, 8 Mar 2005 (UTC)
- 'Merge and Redirect as per above. DaveTheRed 07:16, 8 Mar 2005 (UTC)
Comment: Jackson Roykirk, for the record, was also shown in an episode of Team Knight Rider having invented an Earthquake machine in the 1990's. Not that that information adds much to his entry. --Lenonn
- I see it's been made a redirect. Keep as redirect - David Gerard 12:13, 11 Mar 2005 (UTC)
