Problems
[edit]There are two big problems with this article in its current state. I just NPOV'ed the paragraph on "casual gamers." It stated that casual gamers don't make a significant contribution to the video game industry. I removed that since (1) it isn't true and (2) it isn't qualified. Contribution based on what? Sales? Innovation? Hardware sales?
A similar statement is made in the "hardcore gamer" paragraph. It states that HC gamers make a significant contribution to the video game industry. Again, based on what? Whoever added that, please qualify.
Lastly, the article mentions "softcore gamers" but offers no explanation of what one is (as opposed to HCG's and CG's). I don't know what a "sofcore gamer" is or I'd add it (I have an idea, but no references). Thanks! —Frecklefoot 15:11, 10 Mar 2004 (UTC)
- I removed the mention of softcore gamers and replaced the hardcore significant contribution sentence with mentioning that hardcore gamers are also usually considered synonymous with core audience/early adopters. [1]
- I think there should be a mention that a lot of players consider "hardcore" and "casual" pretty much meaningless terms with blurred boundaries. I know I do!--128.243.220.41 19:39, 11 Feb 2005 (UTC)
- I don't. There is a big difference! — Frecklefoot | Talk 19:51, Feb 11, 2005 (UTC)
- Can you quantify the difference between the two, or between 'hardcore' and 'softcore' games? -Sean Curtin 05:22, Feb 12, 2005 (UTC)
- I think the article itself does a pretty good job of listing the differences. A hardcore gamer is on the cutting edge of game releases and has top-notch hardware. Casual gamers play games, but it's not as a big a priority for them. :-) — Frecklefoot | Talk 18:33, Feb 14, 2005 (UTC)
- I feel that this person talks more opinion than fact. Sept 06, 2005.
Rename?
[edit]Should this article be renamed to video gamer? "Video game player" reads to me like a synonym for "video game console". -Sean Curtin 05:22, Feb 12, 2005 (UTC)
Rewrite?
[edit]Am I the only one that feels this article needs a rewrite? It reads like somebody speaking to me, not an encyclopedia article. Some of the commentaries are begging for source material, too...
