President
[edit]Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahayan has still not been elected as a president of the UAE. Instead, Shaikh Maktoom, the governor of Dubai, is practising presidency temporarly untill a new president will be elected within 30 days from Novemer 2, 2004, a day in which Shikh Zayed passed away.—Preceding unsigned comment added by 67.130.63.3 (talk) 22:14, 6 November 2004
- Since the world's press, quoting the UAE official news agency [1] [2] has reported otherwise, you will need to come up with evidence to support your case if your comment is to stay. Note also [[3]], the official site for the Ministry of Information and Culture in the UAE, which at the time of posting leads with a story of President Sheik Khalifa receiving Jacques Chirac. The King of Bahrain is quoted as saying '....we welcome the mandate taken by the Supreme Council to name Sheikh Khalifa the President of the UAE, wishing him all the success, as he is the right successor for the right predecessor”, said the Bahrain King in a statement upon arrival here.' It all seems pretty much like an open and shut case to me. jguk 23:15, 6 Nov 2004 (UTC)

Nahyan/Nahayan
[edit]The spelling in the title doesn't match that of the article. Grusl (talk) 02:36, 5 January 2008 (UTC)
- Interesting. A similar discussion just began on Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahayan's talk page. I think everything should be changed to "Nahyan." The official UAE government website uses "Nahyan." Leitmanp (talk | contributions) 02:57, 5 January 2008 (UTC)
- For what it's worth, I agree! Grusl (talk) 07:18, 5 January 2008 (UTC)
- Okay. I will go through the entire article and change the name, right now. Leitmanp (talk | contributions) 18:24, 5 January 2008 (UTC)
- Done There was only one incorrect name in the article. I guess the main problem was just the title, I changed that too. Leitmanp (talk | contributions) 18:29, 5 January 2008 (UTC)

When is he born?
[edit]Here it is written he is born Januar 25, 1945, but the article has the category of 1948 births, and in a box it is written he was born in 1948. In the most of other languages, for example my language Norwegian, it is written he is born in 1948 - and no date. In German it is written same date as in English, and the category of 1945 births, and in Russian it is written he was born in 1945 with date, but the category of 1949 births. 80.202.168.82 (talk) 21:31, 26 December 2009 (UTC)
- In the Chinese version he is also referred as born January 25, 1945.Heinrich ⅩⅦ von Bayern (talk) 01:56, 21 May 2010 (UTC)
- Usually, 1948 is considered to be correct. СЛУЖБА (talk) 21:16, 17 November 2010 (UTC)

I'd be minded to agree. Also, his titles are wrong and there are a number of other minor issues. An edit in order to reign back the sewage stuff and correct the errors? Although nobody seems to have bothered since the comment above in January... Alexandermcnabb (talk) 04:22, 13 November 2014 (UTC)

Date of birth
[edit]This passport photo shows the date of birth as September 7 1948. You cannot get a more credible source than this and I know it may look sketchy to non-UAE citizens but as a UAE passport holder, I can attest it is real. There aren't any websites online which show the full date of birth as all/most only show the year 1948. Please change the birth date to the real one. I have done it thrice so far and people keep reverting back and I am a UAE Citizen so I will not "vandalize" my President's page. @Richi: was kind enough to link me to Wikipedia pages regarding edits and this is quoted from his response in my talk page on 10:28, 12 November 2016 (UTC): "Your edits do not conform to WP:BLP, especially the WP:IC and WP:RS parts. Just because you feel an existing entry is wrong, that's insufficient reason to violate established, hard-and-fast rules." Thank you. Elemirati (talk) 10:47, 12 November 2016 (UTC)
- Oppose: I'm unaware of how the article came by the original birth date, but we have two RSs that give the BLP subject's age. I am not aware of any RSs that disagree. Do any editors have such an RS? ... richi (hello) 13:12, 12 November 2016 (UTC)
- Comment Before anyone makes a judgment please complete the preliminary reading, of the following two sections of the attached articles Sheikh Zayed birthdate and Sheikh Saqr birthdate. I think a similar situation to these two articles has occurred. Emir of Wikipedia (talk) 13:17, 12 November 2016 (UTC)
- I suspect you misunderstand what Wikipedia is, despite several editors' attempts to gently educate you. We do not judge truth here. We let WP:RSs do that. The two examples you quote are all well-sourced, AFAICT. So feel free to be bold and do something similar, but only if you have a RS ... richi (hello) 13:26, 12 November 2016 (UTC)
- Additionally, I note that both those articles describe dead people. If Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan was more-than-recently dead, many editors would be less legalistic about the situation. But he appears to be very much alive! ... richi (hello) 13:29, 12 November 2016 (UTC)
- That's my point. What reliable sources use the current birthdate? Please see WP:CIRCULAR, as I think it may have caused this problem. Emir of Wikipedia (talk) 13:32, 12 November 2016 (UTC)
- ref#1 (Forbes is normally WP:AEIS—good) and the sole external link (WP:PRIMARY—adequate as a confirmation). Do you see evidence that the Forbes editor has fallen into the Circular trap? ... richi (hello) 13:42, 12 November 2016 (UTC)
- I may have found the start of the circular trap. The Forbes article where it is reportedly stated (but I have failed to see this information despite yours' two claims) was added around 2 years after this edit. As noted this is based off of astrotheme.com which is almost certainly not an RS. Emir of Wikipedia (talk) 20:07, 12 November 2016 (UTC)

- I do agree with Emir of Wikipedia that none of these birthdates may be correct, but the January 25 birthdate has no RS while the September 7 at least has one debatable RS. I am confident that ref#1's birthdate was obtained from Wikipedia as richi suggested. There is a Snapchat account @UAE (also owner of @EmiratesRoyalFamily on Instagram) who talks about the UAE's leaders and is regularly invited to events and weddings where Sheikhs attend, and if you check his Instagram you will see how he only posts photos of the country's leaders. Last night on @UAE Snapchat, he talked about the wrong birthdate of Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan and requested everyone not to rely on the Wikipedia birthdate, and in turn supplied the passport image. I then rushed to make the changes on his Wikipedia page and my edits got reverted thrice at least. I fully respect Wikipedia rules regarding edits but what I do not understand is that the January 25 birthdate has no RS while the September 7 birthdate has a debatable RS, but I personally consider it to be a RS because no one can fake the passport copy like that and even if someone does, they are going to be severely prosecuted. I hope Wikipedia editors pass the edits when they deem the source a relatively good RS. Elemirati (talk) 14:44, 12 November 2016 (UTC)
- For the record, I suggested no such thing. As for changing the date, please supply at least one RS that cites this other date. ... richi (hello) 15:50, 12 November 2016 (UTC)
- I think the user meant that I suggested it, but I personally do think that the ID is a good enough RS. Where in the Forbes ref#1 or the external link does it mention the exact birthday? I can only see them specifying the year. The Forbes ref#1 source were retrieved in 26 June 2012 so I'll look for edits before that. Emir of Wikipedia (talk) 19:58, 12 November 2016 (UTC)
- Update I found this, but I'm not sure how good it is.[1] Emir of Wikipedia (talk) 13:37, 12 November 2016 (UTC)

- Yet another source I have found one more source[6] which again only specifies the year and not month. Emir of Wikipedia (talk) 20:02, 12 November 2016 (UTC)

- (edit conflict) The only thing that I could find online at the moment was the ID provided by Elemirati, but my point was that he certainly has an official birthdate to tick the box, but the exact one may be unknown like this fathers. My linking of Sheikh Saqr was to show that a WP:REFLOOP may have occurred. I doubt that the September birthday is his exact birthday, but I believe it is what is used on official documents. I'll try and take a look at Arabic language sources to see what else I can find. The lack of a birthday in those official government sources or closely linked organisations suggests the exact birthdate isn't known. Emir of Wikipedia (talk) 13:57, 12 November 2016 (UTC)
- I do wish you two would stop putting words in my mouth. I didn't say the Forbes ref gave his DoB. Scroll up, and you'll see I said the two refs gave his age. - Sorry if you're getting irritated; didn't mean to put words in your mouth but this discussion has been a bit disorganised and confusing. I'm not disputing his age, which I believe is correct give or take a year. I agree that we should note the precise DoB is disputed, but if we do that then we should use the one on the ID and not the one from the astrology website.
