[edit]I removed:
- Dallas kept that focus for the entire game, outplaying the upstart Broncos at every turn.
(in reference to the supplied quote) Because it is vague and attempts to apply rhetoric to reality. Obviously both teams were thinking about both the game of football and the hope of winning. How would you know that the Broncos were thinking more about football than about winning a game of football? Tuf-Kat 06:30, Oct 21, 2003 (UTC)
Superbowl XII poem
[edit]I wrote a poem about that game while it was going on and later that night. I never "finished" it, though I think there are some good lines in it. I will paste it below. Feel free to edit/improve it, all you guys 'n' gals out there who like to mix poetry and football.
TWELFTH WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP
January 16th, '78
for NW
The shape is a circle
with two points dead center
One is ground zero
and one might be a camera
on a plane high up in the ceiling of the Dome.
This is the ball's unpredictability
Though you stand tall though your arm reaches out
looking looking
though your legs are like marble
one foot always down
one eye on the ball in the air
It gets away
The ball is loose
If he could have taken it clean into his middle
cradle it like his baby...
But if you run that way you fall.
Weese, Weese
he can hear the voices call
We're Goodrich not the other guys
The young quarterback played at Mississippi
a New Orleans boy
He is thinking of pairs of eyes
he is holding a girl
the chance he is blowing to be a hero.
He wanted to be the iridescent sphere
touching down along the orderly rows
sending the shock wave out.
But he wanted to do it alone.
And that is not what the game is about. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Lestrad (talk • contribs) 09:57, 5 February 2010 (UTC)
Contemporaneous newspaper article(s)
[edit]The Gazette [Montreal], New Orleans (AP), "Super Bowl XII: Cowboys XXVII, Broncos X", Monday, Jan. 16, 1978, page 9.
Butch Johnson's catch
[edit]Makes the point that Johnson had the ball when he crossed the plane of the goal line. Also that Johnson had suffered a broken thumb (!) earlier in the game, and on this catch had to use his left hand more than his right. FriendlyRiverOtter (talk) 19:47, 3 August 2010 (UTC)
And Craig Morton said about being taken out: “When I was taken out, it didn’t make me feel good. But I’m not going to play my life over because of it.”
Game plan for Cowboys' defense to pressure Morton?
[edit]‘ . . . “Our game was rush, rush, rush,” said [Harvey] Martin. “Pressure, pressure, pressure. We wanted to force him out of the pocket and we did. We were coming all the way.” . . ’

Super Bowl XII Footage Status
[edit]Recently returned to this article and found a statement from an October [edit] saying that no known copy of this Super Bowl is known to exist, using as evidence a [2010 article]. Maybe this is referring to a master, because I've seen links of copies being on the tape trading circuit and on a few occasions saw a copy uploaded from an airing from Houston CBS affiliate KHOU. I'll look for something more recent to see if anything comes up confirming, clarifying or refuting that statement. WAVY 10 Fan (talk) 23:22, 11 January 2015 (UTC)
