I removed:

because this is a heavily biased opinion. An atheist director can be just as knowledgeable about Catholic doctrines as a Catholic, he just chooses not to believe in them. Furthermore I do not believe that the reputation of St. Joe's has been "damaged." • I would like to point out Ian that knowledge is a far cry from understanding. Case in point, racism. Sure I'm knowledgeable about it, but I will never be able to understand it, at least not in the profound way that a black man in the South or a Jew in Germany would. Because belief is such a necessary aspect of the Catholic faith, a lack thereof makes for situations where, by accident or design, the integrity of Catholicism will be voided. For example, making inappropriate comments while attending Mass, in my mind, counts as damaging. Though you may choose to not believe what we believe, a certain decorum is expected of you, especially if you choose to attend Mass. The Director does not have that sense of decency. This lack of respect spills over into his duties as Director of the Residence. He lacks respect for the residents as a whole, enough so that action was taken by the residents against him through a variety of channels. A clear indication of his true nature is revealed by the off-colour comments he made about Dean Mortensen and his utter decimation of over thirty years of tradition at the College. This "lack of understanding and tolerance" can only be referenced by those who have lived under his Directorship. The purpose of the above passage was to warn future residents about the true nature of the administration at St. Joseph's College as it pertains to the Residence. It is admittedly an inaccurate picture as it only brings to the potential resident knowledge of how the residence has been defiled by the Directors presence, only after having lived there will they truly be able to understand. Only someone who has a fundamental ignorance of the Catholic faith could believe that an Atheist could even begin to understand the beauty of our faith. You cannot read a book and suddenly be versed in Catholicism, perhaps you confuse us with evangelical fundamentalists. The true beauty of the Catholicism lies in the community of faith which has nurtured and sustained us for countless generations. How could an Atheist possibly understand something as selfless as this which will not result in instant gratification. Geoff Adair

Merger Discussion

I'm against merging the two articles as they are very distinct organizations. Beyond sharing the same name and being Catholic institutions, their fundamental goals and objectives, in fact their whole raison d'etre, is quite different. St. Joseph Seminary (Edmonton, AB) and Newman Theological College are for the formation of those desiring to enter into the priesthood. St. Joseph's College on the other hand, is the Catholic presence at the University of Alberta and its primary purpose is student faith development and enrichment. These goals are obviously quite different, as are the institutions themselves, therefore a merger in this case would be most inappropriate. RarefiedDeer (talk) 16:51, 4 February 2008 (UTC)

I wish to update the logo on the St. Joseph's College Wikipedia Page.
