Wind Turbines vs Windmills
[edit]I don't think Wind turbines and windmills are the same thing at all. Windmills are clearly machines that use wind to mill e.g. grain. Wind turbines generate electricity (like a gas turbine or a steam turbine). In my view, the term 'windmill' is used disparagingly to create the perception that modern wind turbines are an archaic technology. Grandwilly (talk) 00:17, 10 September 2020 (UTC)Grandwilly
Inaccurate sources on the history of windmills
[edit]From the first section;
"It has been claimed that the Babylonian emperor Hammurabi planned to use wind power for his ambitious irrigation project in the seventeenth century BCE.[7]"
This is a pretty dubious historical claim. The reference is a scientific work on windmills, without a doubt, but the author being cited has no credentials in history. The references that the author gives is to other non-historical academic works. According to Pennsylvania State University, windmills originated in the 9th century AD, i.e. the middle of the Middle Ages. That makes the above sentence so dubious that it ought to be removed. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Wallingfordtoday (talk • contribs) 22:13, 31 December 2018 (UTC)

I check pages listed in Category:Pages with incorrect ref formatting to try to fix reference errors. One of the things I do is look for content for orphaned references in wikilinked articles. I have found content for some of Windmill's orphans, the problem is that I found more than one version. I can't determine which (if any) is correct for this article, so I am asking for a sentient editor to look it over and copy the correct ref content into this article.

I apologize if any of the above are effectively identical; I am just a simple computer program, so I can't determine whether minor differences are significant or not. AnomieBOT⚡ 13:43, 1 May 2022 (UTC)
