County Name
[edit]Did was Bibb County renamed Macon-Bibb County? 2600:1700:2ED1:6E30:C0C5:E66D:2738:46F8 (talk) 20:17, 24 May 2023 (UTC)
- Yes, it was. The new Government is called Macon-Bibb County.
- However, that opens up a bigger question. If this page is renamed to Macon-Bibb County, Georgia then doesn't that also make the page Macon, Georgia obsolete? The question whether to merge the two pages has been asked before, back in 2015, but perhaps it should be re-visited. There is a lot of duplicate content between the two pages, and despite having some separate content, all foreseeable future edits would concern both pages.
- Light-jet pilot (talk) 01:47, 18 June 2023 (UTC)
- Since both Macon and Bibb County are still notable as former entities, one possibility would be to have pre-2012 Macon information at History of Macon, Georgia and likewise for History of Bibb County, Georgia (both of which are currently redirects back to the respective main articles). The "History of X" naming wouldn't typically be necessary for historical entities but might be useful here to comply with the principle of least astonishment, since many readers won't realize that Macon-as-such doesn't exist anymore. Macon, Georgia and Bibb County, Georgia themselves could then redirect to the new Macon-Bibb County, Georgia article (or rather, one could be moved and one could be redirected, with appropriate copy/merge templates on the appropriate talk pages). This seems like a lot of hard work TBH so I'm not too surprised that no one's done it. But at some point we are going to need to restructure our coverage here. -- Visviva (talk) 23:48, 18 June 2023 (UTC)
