For a period, this page forwarded to "FrankB," which is not me. I am fairly sure I am not him! —Preceding unsigned comment added by FrankB (talkcontribs) 01:41, 6 January 2007

Oops -- you may be back

[edit]

Some interferring busybody removed the message(s) I'd left you... I'm active all over the nine-wikipedia foundation wiki sister project's and thought it wise to have the signature and name redirect in your absence least someone on the other sister's try and find me in the wrong place. My best guess was you were a fly by night flash in a pan visitor, that had maybe lost their password. If you get this, drop me a note. Apologies, and see the prior posts. // FrankB 20:07, 1 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

This user has been very inactive and not answered any messages. I suspect he forgot his password or is involved with a naughty woman or such and no longer wiki's.

I'd missed by a only a few short days (WikiPdaze!) grabbing this account on the advice of Mgm by email (as a copy of his method), which alas, I'd procrastinated over for some weeks. [On reinspection, I'd just had the idea the account was much younger—it is in fact much older, but far less used. That complicates things.] A real irony considering this users actual lack of editing. Hence, I'm acting boldly to minimize confusion for the occasional Admin or editor who inspects This missing guy's non-contributions or other activity based on the phonemes in my Signature.

If you are this guy... I've sent you some mail (BELOW) —several times— Please answer!

In any event, I'm redirecting his user page in a very open manner. If it's a big problem, I figure proprieties are observed well enough—If he ever logs in again, he'll see my page and the redirection.

Just making sure. Can't be too careful with anonymous users these days. - Fennec 02:36, 7 Apr 2004 (UTC)

If you want the software to deuglify links that look like General Protection Fault (comic strip), you need to add a trailing |, like General Protection Fault (comic strip). That | will cause the parser to remove leading namespace tags (ie: Talk:) and trailing parentheticals. In this case, it'll change General Protection Fault (comic strip) to General Protection Fault.

Note that it does this as a conversion on saving, so General Protection Fault (comic strip) will be changed to General Protection Fault. -- Cyrius|&#9998 12:38, Apr 6, 2004 (UTC)

Untagged images

[edit]

I've tagged the image Image:Gofcock2.png as "unverified" that means wikipedia doesn't know the copyright status. If this is your picture could you edit the page and change the tag to "GFDL" otherwise the image could be deleted as a possible copyright violation! Thanks Zeimusu 07:17, 2004 Dec 27 (UTC)

We Got a Collision!

[edit]

FrankB says: Hi FrankB!?? ~:)
I was just belatedly following some advice I recieved in March from user talk:Mgm (follow, note name and Signature, plus the blue redirect link notice at the top) to peg this name to my account proper with redirects as a registered SocketPuppet of sorts— I've been doing some much needed housekeeping all day. See user:fabartus/user_talk:fabartus and my signature therein at page top.

  • I frankly don't know what the implications are, save together if nothing changes we're going to confuse some folks. I do know that you can have your Anom edits merged into your registered account, and then redirect your IP account to point to your user name and Talk. I've done that redirect with my IP.
  • It's logical to assume we can also move a user account (rename to a new name); I've a high confidence factor in that. I don't suppose this early in your wikiCareer you'd had a good alternate name you can live with? My Sigs been around for 1300+ edits. Drop me an email (fabartus-at-Comcast.net [Skipping the '@' defeats spammers' webspiders]) and let's put our heads together. I've asked Mgm, a former member of the Mediation Commitee who knows all the ropes, to give us advice on options. My post to him—He'll likely do that here or by email to me and you.

Thanks, and sorry for having to make the request as the 'Best' solution, IMHO. Hanging onto your FrankB will be Okay too. I just think I should ask, all things considered. FrankB

Welcome!

Hello, FrankB, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you for your contributions. I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Here are a few good links for newcomers:

I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! Please sign your name on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will automatically produce your name and the date. If you need help, check out Wikipedia:Questions, ask me on my talk page, or place helpme on your talk page and someone will show up shortly to answer your questions. Again, welcome! FrankB 20:15, 5 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

A Helping Hand or More

[edit]
  1. I redirected your IP address to these pages by you so you won't get the snarly query like the above. (You'll be watched closely for a couple of months as a newbie, or Anom., but not as much as the Anoms are watched.) You can go to them by entering your IP in the search bar just as you can cut and paste (CnP) 'user:Mel_Etitis' or 'user_talk:Mel_Etitis' there, which will take you to his user pages.
  2. When wikified as links the equivelents are: user:Mel_Etitis  /  user talk:Mel_Etitis. (He's a good admin to know for all that he's 'a bloody Brit'! <G>)
  3. or a similar link— Unwikfied: Gets to my talk page. These are the three of the four ways of getting around in Wiki and/or in using links, so edit this section and study the differences. The fourth is by direct URL: http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=User:208.251.19.43&redirect=no  an explicit cite here, and a link to your IP should you want to edit it and delete the redirect. User_talk:208.251.19.43 gets you to the other more indirectly... you're back here, but with a bluelink indicating you went through the redirect. By clicking on the blue link, you go to the page redirecting you here. So you can edit that away too.
  4. I placed a subst: welcome template above for you, this should have been done days ago, so the Admins must be buried.
  5. My user page has a lot of good stuff on it. It's part of the wikiCulture that people expect you to steal things from user and Talk pages, so open up one edit window where you want to put it, and the edit window where the source is, and copy away using CnP from window to window... back out or jump to a new URL in the source window edit, and no harm done. It's also pretty much invisible and untraceable. I've a group of interesting user pages (now dated, I suspect some have changed) that use various WikiMetaLanguage effects and lists. Poke around, and browse 90:10, the ten will be much more productive that way all the sooner and can become 99%+ soon enough. If you're into sci-fi I'm working virtually alone on a ten plus article series of articles (sadly neglected) talk: 1632 series will get you to most current planned links about a section or two down.
  6. Regards of what occurs with our collision, I'm around often, and glad to help. If I'm not actively on Wiki, the best and fastest way to get me is generally by an email... I tend to long careful edits. A whole chain of short edits just messes up the history pages, which are a very useful tool. By that link, you can see that you can preview an edit, then follow links in the generated copy downstream to check them. That's how I get into such chains of edits. It does require a lot of using of BACKSPACE to get back to the most recently previewed changes... especially if you get five or six articles downstream with nested edits and (usually multiple) preview looks along the way! I don't recommend it, but don't often take my own advice either! <G>
  7. You can see from this edit, how to place numbered points in a document
    1. Here's the next level. Wiki works with browser text size scaling, so when making an edit around images and such, check the wrapping and placement of such by zooming in an out while viewing the effects on the whole. Sometimes you can fill up a lot of otherwise whitespace by correctly placing the image within the text, and/or by changing its thumbnail size (px).
    2. Which is useful, depending on the context and subject matter.
  8. And one can return to the main flow thusly.
  9. So make yourself at home. It's a really important good habit to puruse a Talk page, and the article history page before editing a matured article. I have some links to catalog type pages where articles are immature. But this is Wiki, one edits where one's interests take them.
  10. Some good places to start getting a feel for the culture (And it is a community with it's own rules and expectations of and on members) are these (mainly talk pages)
    1. WP:VP - The village Pump is the community center BB of sorts
    2. WP:AfD - The Articles for deletion debate pages. These are also excellent for meeting up and comers and established Admins that you can ask for help. My page has link to all the Admins somewhere under useful links.
    3. WP:RFC - Request for Comments
    4. WP:JIMBO - Jimmy Wales own talk page. A lot of folks congregate and it serves to give you an idea of hot topics
  11. One last steer: If you follow the category at the bottom of my user pages, you should get to a list with some poking around entitled 'Wikipedians Welcome Committee' or such like. That link should give you a list of editors and admins that have volunteered to help new editors such as yourself. I should copy a link to that myself for my user page!
  12. Suggest you set up a Bookmark/Favorites folder (Term depends on which browser you're using) that is alphabetically near the top, to hold only useful wikipedia links. e.g. Mine is called 'aWiki', so it floats (above)on most all other folder names. Helps when want to put things in fast, or find them fast.
  13. Look at the page history now to see the comparative edits. tab back and forward, and see the changes. Note that my signed edit ends in the status line with my signature but no time. ~~~ is signed in the status window, the four '~' version is used in talk pages which are like delayed time chat rooms.
  14. oops! I need another good tip, in case you're superstitious! Ahh... Tables and tablelike resources
    1. Access some of the measurements and units articles like US customary units for tables examples.
    2. Try history of Battles articles for examples of the later like Battle of Tsushima

This should be enough to get you going and fill up lots of WikiTime! Good Hunting!
Enjoy! FrankB 19:54, 5 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Check back

[edit]
    • I was just checking to see if you'd made a counterpost, and this time checked your contribs, whereas before I'd just seen your brief talk history. I guess you aren't as new as I'd infered. FrankB 03:51, 8 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

February 2007 cleanup

[edit]
  • Boo Hiss! for this, confusion causing bit of unecessary editing! // FrankB 20:32, 1 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
    • If you've changed IP's again (no activity here), such as using a school computer, know that you can have the contribs rolled into and properly credited to this account. Such takes a sys-op intervention, but if you know or can make a list of edits by an IP account, paste them into a text file, I can help your find the right individual to put it all into your history as a contributor. // FrankB 21:24, 1 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

File:Gofcock2.jpg

If you feel that you can improve the image, please replace the speedy deletion template with hangon. Thank You. ZooFari 15:59, 17 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Proposed deletion of Codenix

[edit]

The article Codenix has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

defunct company fails WP:CORPDEPTH

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion.
