Striped knight
[edit]hey, does anybody here know, who this knight was? He had origins somewhere from North-Africa and was part of the Arthur stories. His skin was striped black and white (as his parents were black and white). I remember reading about him when I was a kid and was trying to find his name now, but couldn't. Help appreciated. Meleagant
[edit]If this is the same character as Melwas, then I think the first appearance must be in Culhwch and Olwen, which mentions Maelwys son of Baeddan. I've found at least two references online to Maelwys being the same character as Meleagant, so I think that it should be looked into/researched more. 209.162.56.40 21:12, 26 July 2007 (UTC)
Lamorak
[edit]The table lists his first appearance as the Prose Tristan, but gives the Vulgate Cycle as a later appearance. I thought the Vulgate was before the Prose Tristan? 209.162.56.40 19:56, 27 July 2007 (UTC)
Category
[edit]Perhaps this would make more sense as an "Arthurian characters" category? DoctorElmo 18:55, 25 May 2006 (UTC)
- I think the same thing, I'll try to set it up tomorrow. Kuralyov 02:03, 28 April 2007 (UTC)
Deletion or revamp
[edit]Now that we have a category for this, we may want to delete this article, or change it drastically. It could become a page outlining characteristics of more major Gawain characters, a the works that talk about them. Wrad 02:33, 2 May 2007 (UTC)
- I think it's worth keeping, but definitely changing. Perhaps a section for the chatacters of each major cycle or story. Kuralyov 04:14, 2 May 2007 (UTC)
- I find this article much more useful than a category, since it includes what literary sources the characters were from. Some of the information in this article, especially the first appearance column, is not also in the individual articles, let alone gathered together in one place like this. 209.162.56.40 21:12, 26 July 2007 (UTC)
Sorting
[edit]We have a few characters listed twice under two different names (ie, Nimue, Morgause). I'm tempted to combine these, unless both names are very common. Also, there are some characters, all having the same name (i.e. Elaine, Iseult) that are combined into one entry on this list. These, I feel, should be separated. Wrad 02:18, 5 May 2007 (UTC)
Featured List
[edit]In the future I'd like to see this become a featured list on wikipedia. We just need to hammer out format issue and "fill in the blanks." (and cite our sources, eek). Wrad 11:39, 22 May 2007 (UTC)
Round table
[edit]I'd like to add a symbol for all knights of the round table, like this one † or something. Also, maybe one for antagonists. I just think this would help people see the big picture. Also, if we did this, we could eliminate the unencyclopedic list of Knights on the Round Table page. Wrad 02:28, 4 June 2007 (UTC)
- I think it would be useful to put this symbol in a separate table column, and then make the table sortable on each column. (Ideally, sorting on "Earliest appearance" should make it chronological.)--Nø (talk) 14:17, 12 March 2011 (UTC)
Origins
[edit]I think it might be a good idea to have a separate column for the origins of the various semi-historical characters, such as Gawain and Lot (both kings of Gododdin) or Urien (the famous Urien Rheged), and of the definitely made-up ones, like "the questing beast," etc. Of course, some of them are to unknown or contoversial to do this, like Arthur himself. Perhaps these should just be left blank or given an "unknown" status. Just an idea. ---G.T.N. (talk) 22:44, 15 March 2008 (UTC)
- The list is very weak on sources. A number of names have no source at all. This needs some work from you dedicated Arthurian fans, before someone starts plastering this and related articles with those ugly "no sources or references tags". --Blainster (talk) 15:12, 25 July 2009 (UTC)
Bedivere
[edit]Does anyone know if Sir Bedivere happened to have one injured hand?
Not only that, he was missing a hand in the welsh. ---G.T.N. (talk) 23:14, 15 June 2008 (UTC)
Dryden
[edit]John Dryden wrote the libretto for Henry Purcell's King Arthur. Are the characters other than Arthur, Aurelius, and Merlin all made up by Dryden or derived from non-Arthurian sources? Dryden's sources include Geoffrey, Gildas, Bede, Bochart (says he used the latter two but few traces appear), as well as Tacitus's Annales, and Gildon. --Scottandrewhutchins (talk) 16:57, 11 September 2008 (UTC)
