i know a little about teh development of women's TJ. I may write about it. I believe it was pushed in the NCAA and China which lead to its international acceptance. There are records of it back to the 1920's

I believe that technically, a "missed jump" due to stepping over the foul line is a "foul", not a scratch. "Scratch" is used to denote "scratching" out of the event due to other reasons, such as injury or no-show, etc. People always use "scratch" out of habit, including myself, but in meets that are well officiated the term I always hear is "foul".

Rewrite

I think someone should really rewrite this article to make it more like the one on the long jump. I can work a bit on the history part, and some of the technique part in the section can be put into a separate section.Juggertrout (talk) 18:54, 30 August 2008 (UTC)

OK, I've begun a template for the intro and history section. I'm thinking of adding more history later, covering the first 17m, 18m jumps etc as well as the 1968 olypics. feet vs. meters.

Hi, the article mentions old olympians jumping 50ft. all other distances in the article are in meters. Most people who use the metric system are unable to do a quick comparison to imperial, and vice versa. I suggest you either change it to metric, or put in brackets (15m).

The metric-to-imperial conversions for Edwards' and Kravetz's world records do not correspond to widely recognized conversions in Track & Field News' Big Gold Book and the USATF conversion calculator. (Specifically, it takes a 1/4 inch off each mark.) How is the distance in the sand pit measured?

I came here because I was curious about how the distance in the sand pit is measured. I suppose is it from where the back of the feet land but it seems to me that the sand splashes so much it's hard to even know where that is. How precisely is it measured given the nature of sand? Somersault triple jump

The German version of this article lists “any kind of sommersault” as a scratch criterion. It does not mention attempts on actually doing this. Alfe (talk) 22:36, 24 February 2023 (UTC)

No Sources Added In "Technique" Section

All-time top 25 Notes

The user Montell 74 insists on listing all jumps equal or superior to 15.00 meters for women and 17.77 meters for men. In my opinion, top ten results are enough, i.e. 15.20 meters and 17.90 meters respectively. It is way easier to keep track of these limits. In other disciplines e.g. long jump, high jump and pole vault only top ten results are listed. We should keep it consistent. Thank you!

Green and yellow shading in tables

@Dweller, it would help if you could edit the page to explain it. The same format is used on many different athletics event pages, so my guess is that it was explained somewhere the first time it was used but not as much after that. --Habst (talk) 15:12, 1 March 2024 (UTC)

The image that pops up when you're searching for the triple jump world record.

Someone should seriously consider editing the image the shows up for this site on Google when searching up the triple jump record, it shows the former record holder and I'm sure that was done purely to make it look like a black athlete holds the record instead of a white one. The only image that should show up is the one of the ACTUAL record holder, this isn't a Disney remake this is history we're dealing with here. 211.30.17.111 (talk) 09:09, 22 July 2024 (UTC)

Not everything is race-related. It is because the only free photo we have of Edwards during the triple jump is a poor, blurry one, while the one we have in the article is much clearer, while still showing one of the greats of the sport. We are an encyclopedia, the current world record holder is not more (or less) important than a previous one. Fram (talk) 07:52, 12 August 2024 (UTC)
