error message

[edit]

The link to Indika returns an error message.

Fixed. --Clay Collier 00:54, 19 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Neither does the Rigveda, Ramayana or Mahabharta refer to Hercules, etc. thus this is planted data. Hindus have their own Aryan gods. These have nothing to do with the Greeks — Preceding unsigned comment added by 65.88.88.202 (talk) 22:37, 11 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

Why does the External links section have two links directing to the same site? As they seem to go to the same page, I decided to remove the link only displaying the address, not the one with bibliographical references. 129.125.156.46 (talk) 19:11, 10 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Added a little detail in Legacy

[edit]

I just added a little bit of detail to the Legacy section of this page, discussing some of Strabo's specific objections rather than simply saying that he did or did not treat Megasthenes's Indica with respect. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2601:7:9F01:7BF7:E6CE:8FFF:FE27:64F6 (talk) 14:44, 30 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Separate article for the book

[edit]

I've undone recent undiscussed split by User:Kazvorpal for following reasons:

  • It was done without content attribution: see Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia
  • Nearly all the content left in this article after the split was still about the book (except a couple of sentences about Megasthenes' occupation, region of birth, and period). There was a lot of duplication of information: the content left in this article should have been much shorter, per Wikipedia:Summary style.

I've no problem with the content about the book being split into a separate article, if the above-mentioned problems are addressed. utcursch | talk 16:20, 17 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]

If no one has an objection, I'll perform a proper split. This article can be shortened to bits about Megasthenes's personal life / career. utcursch | talk 01:11, 3 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]
