Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Space Pope

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Space Pope was proposed for deletion. This page is an archive of the discussion about the proposed deletion. This page is no longer live. Further comments should be made on the article's talk page rather than here so that this page is preserved as an historic record. The result of the debate was to delete the article.

The "Space Pope" was mentioned in Futurama as a pseudo-futuristic parody on the phrase "Is the Pope Catholic?" He also appeared for two seconds at the end of an educational film parody. And that's it. Delete. Ian Pugh 17:58, 8 Nov 2004 (UTC)

Keep
  1. Keep merge and redirect to Futurama (TV series). Simple solutions don't require VFD. -- Netoholic @ 18:23, 2004 Nov 8 (UTC)
  2. Keep m/r to Futurama (TV series) or a character list associated with that show. Also why is this discussion set up in a keep/delete poll with comments at the bottom? siroχo 19:23, Nov 8, 2004 (UTC)
  3. Keep as redirect to Futurama T.P.K. 06:07, 9 Nov 2004 (UTC)
  • While it seems that minor character pages or merge/redirect mentions work in some circumstances, I must point out that the Space Pope is not even a character; he is a single joke from the series without any context outside of being a silly joke, with five seconds total to his name out of four years and seventy-two episodes. Ian Pugh 20:10, 8 Nov 2004 (UTC)
And someone might conceivably use the name to look for Futurama-related info. There's no harm in a redirect. T.P.K. 06:07, 9 Nov 2004 (UTC)

  3. Delete, the space pope is already mentioned in the futurama article. --Conti| 21:44, Nov 8, 2004 (UTC)

  5. Delete for reasons stated above. Niceguyjoey 01:46, Nov 9, 2004 (UTC)
  6. Delete: Don't know why it's a poll, but the character lists are the character lists and are full by themselves. No need to put this into the merge queue, where it will sit for weeks, when we're talking about virtually no information on a joke. Redirects are cheap, but merges aren't. 7. Delete. Very few jokes from TV shows are remarkable enough to merit an article. Wile E. Heresiarch 06:38, 9 Nov 2004 (UTC)
  8. Redirect - redundant, undeserving of standalone article. Redirect to prevent future recreation. -- Cyrius| 07:15, 9 Nov 2004 (UTC)
  9. Delete. It's just a throwaway joke in a TV series. No need for a separate articleAverage Earthman 10:15, 9 Nov 2004 (UTC)
  10. Delete many times over. Sub-micro-trivial. Isomorphic 16:04, 9 Nov 2004 (UTC)

  12. What? Where are the articles on the Space Papal Schism? Or the Space Anti-pope? Or the Space Babylonian Captivity and the Space lay-investiture controversy? Maybe since there is no space papacy we should just delete it? -R. fiend 05:12, 10 Nov 2004 (UTC)

  14. Delete. This is less than nanotrivial. Psychonaut 23:04, 10 Nov 2004 (UTC)
  15. Delete. Once in a while, something from a show gets sufficient "weight" to justify an entry. Perhaps "Mr. Spock", for example. But not this--way too trivial.Gurdonark 21:50, 11 Nov 2004 (UTC)
  16. Delete it. -- [[User:Radman1|RaD Man (talk)]] 17:55, 12 Nov 2004 (UTC)
