Talk:Wavelet compression
Appearance
"This produces as many coefficients as there are pixels...". This statement doesn't seem to be correct. A wavelet transform can produce any amount of coefficients, depending on how many wavelets are considered in that process.
Lossy?
[edit]A certain loss of quality is accepted, known as lossy compression.
I'm not sure why this line is placed right in the beginning of the article - wavelet transforms are not inherently lossy - that comes purely from their finite precision implementation. Furthermore, you do have integer wavelet transforms that are prefectly lossless.
