The war lasted from the invasion of Poland in 1939 to the surrender of Germany and Japan in 1945.

Surely, the war lasted 7 years?
- Good point. However, as far as I am aware, the Second World War is generally considered to last for six years. Yes, it took place within seven different years, but 1939-45 is six years.
