Genre name and article content

[edit]

I've heard of Freestyle and I've heard of House but never Freestyle House. Most of the musicians listed here would fall under Freestyle, Latin Freestyle, or Electro. Most of the information provided in this article is also found in those other articles, so it becomes redundant. Also, the article is way too long and goes off into specifics of artists that should be written under their own article, if they don't have one already. 69.22.90.132 22:01, 15 Aug 2004 (UTC)

Obviously some folks cant read a references section. Author gave permission for its use.  ALKIVAR 02:58, 21 Jan 2005 (UTC)

It looks like in recent months, the Wikipedia article has been trimmed and rewritten a fair bit so that it no longer duplicates the Joey Gardner article, which is good. It is inappropriate, by Wikipedia standards, to use other articles as Wikipedia content, even if done with permission.
However, there is still the question of "Freestyle House" being the name of the article and musical genre. Freestyle became rather housey in the 1990s, so it might be acceptable to refer to a fair amount of post-1980s freestyle as "freestyle house" or just "freestyle", but the simple term "freestyle" is still universally understood among afficianados and is still cited in the music press as the most appropriate word denoting the mostly-1980s Latin pop/hip-hop/electro fusion that was made famous by producers such as Joey Gardner, the Latin Rascals, and Lewis Martinée. It is entirely inappropriate to call that electro-based music "freestyle house". I think I will see what edits I can make to retitle the article and clarify the terminology appropriately. — mjb 23:16, 31 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]
  • If you are doing a proper rewrite of this article, you could consider merging Electro (music) and Electro hop in with it as well, to prevent further confusion later. Both cover practically the same subject matter. I agree that Freestyle music is the best home for this subject though. Jdcooper 00:06, 1 Jun 2005 (UTC)
